ABOUT LISA
Good food brings people together. A wonderful meal can be a catalyst for the exchange of ideas, ultimately helping to make the world a better place, even if it’s just a little. The attention, care, and passion of Chefs to make a meal truly special is evident well before the first bite is taken.
Chef Lisa McLaughlin has been passionate about the food business her entire life. Her first entrepreneurial venture started at the age of 8 with her own vegetable garden and roadside stand.
Lisa wanted to be a chef, but she also always wanted to be a young mom. At 61, she has raised her children and is a grandmother of six.
While running her first deli some time ago, she heard an advertisement for a career school in Manhattan. Her enrollment would change her life and career, catapulting her in the direction she was passionate about, as a chef. Commuting into the city three days a week and operating her deli at the same time, served as this innovative entrepreneur’s educational landscape and roadmap to accomplish her goals and vision of entering the culinary world.
After completing her externship, she opened Chefs in 2006 in Lake Tranquility. She retained a leased space for 6 1/2 years and continued in rented kitchen spaces for a few years after.
In 2018, a customer suggested her current location at 411 Route 94 in Columbia, now affectionately admired as Chefs Catering. Her original plan was to open ‘catering only’ for the first year.
Opening a catering business and restaurant under normal circumstances can be fraught with challenges, but she was suddenly challenged by the Global Pandemic we were all faced with. Lisa got the okay to open on March 16, 2020, and was ordered to close on March 17th. This creative chef immediately pivoted to meals-to-go after just being open for one day. Her meal-to-go menu consisted of meals for two at an economical price.
Since then, her business has grown and flourished. Her thriving catering service with a loyal customer base sought after for the quality of food, service, and overall experience - available seven days a week.
Chefs is a place for food, fun, and family serving North Jersey with affordable, scrumptious selections from formal to informal. It’s truly unique!.
